So I haven’t been as good about writing my blog posts lately but at least the aquaponics systems seem to get along just fine with little attention provided the system is well designed and balanced. Things can still go wrong but for the most part the aquaponics system needs just a quick glance each day (make sure there isn’t excess uneaten feed and no fish are floating and pumps are working.) Then for my systems a once a week pH test seems to be adequate. Some eating of the food and that’s about it most of the time.
Once the aquaponics system is established, it doesn’t take much. Some systems with heavier fish loads or lower starting pH might need more pH monitoring but systems can be designed to be very easy to maintain.
I’ve been busy the past several days with my “day” job (calling it a job is a very loose thing. I work freelance as a stagehand occasionally doing audio, lighting, or AV for corporate meetings and such. Definitely not as special as it sounds. We mostly push boxes and run cables.) So working long days but the aquaponics systems are still doing fine and the plants are all happy being automatically watered and fertilized.
I couldn’t garden without automatic irrigation. Drip irrigation is ok for the dirt gardens but it’s still not as nice as the aquaponics for getting steady growth. And now that I’ve started using the aquaponics and capillary matting to get seedlings going it has suddenly become very easy to start seeds even if I might not be around daily to keep them from drying out.
Anyway, I’m sorry I’ve not been very good lately about writing often. Hopefully I’ll have some fish cams going soon to make up for the lack of blog posts. I have just gotten a weather station that should hopefully also be able to log the temperatures of the fish tanks so that is something to look forward too as well.
Thanks for reading.
