Ya know my post yesterday? I spoke too soon. I have now experienced a total fish kill in a system. Let me explain.
Fishkill
This was in my 300 gallon system (the big system is still doing fine and the really big fish are still living.) It is winter here and my systems . . . → Read More: Fish Kill
Let me start by saying I have never (knock on wood) killed a complete stock of fish. However, occasionally things happen and I have lost a few. Most illness in fish is brought on by stress and poor water quality. It is important that when one will be handling the fish the water quality should . . . → Read More: Sometime Fish Get Sick
I’ve had a few people comment that one should not use seaweed extract in aquaponics systems because it would cause salt to build up and even heard it suggested that the occasional use of salt is defeating to the aquaponics.
I can understand some portions of the arguments but I have never seen an issue . . . → Read More: To Seaweed or not to Seaweed
I recently read a post some where that was criticizing how advice in a public forum might get taken as gospel and run people into aquaponics disaster.

Something that crops up occasionally in aquaponics or hydroponics is what happens with an outdoor or greenhouse sump tank that is sunk into the ground. See if the water level in a barrel or other light weight tank that is sunk into the ground gets really low while there is a . . . → Read More: Heavy Rain
Our year three initial order of fish. Tiny Channel Catfish fingerlings. Sometimes when you go to get fish, your only choice might be to get what they have on hand or get nothing at all. So at that time we picked up what was supposed to be 100 3-5 inch . . . → Read More: New Catfish Dec 24, 2009
Come the second winter (we are now into the third winter of my aquaponics experience) I extended the greenhouse a bit and tied the tunnel over the monster bed in with the main greenhouse. Then I added some rain water collection and a hard roof section between the existing greenhouse . . . → Read More: Greenhouse improvements second winter
